Questions about payment

  • Yes, vehicle rentals are subject to a deposit. You can pay for the rental of vans and cars in the mini class by debit card. For all other vehicles, you will need a credit card.

    The amount of the deposit depends on the rented vehicle and car class. At Avis, it is possible to reduce the amount of the deposit by lowering the deductible:

    • for passenger cars, the minimum deposit is €250;
    • for vans, the minimum deposit is €350;
    • for trucks up to and including class T3OK, the minimum deposit is €750.

    You pay the deposit at the location when you pick the vehicle up. This also applies to reservations made online or through the call center. Depending on the car class, you can pay the deposit in the following ways:

    • Mini and Economy class; debit or credit card;
    • Compact class (medium-sized car class); credit card;
    • Intermediate and Standard classes (large car class); credit card
    • Full Size, Premium, Luxury, and Special class (large car class); 2 credit cards or 1 credit card and 1 debit card payment. All cards need to be in the renter’s name. This is also the main driver
    • FVMR; debit or credit card;
    • Passenger van (9 pers.); debit or credit card;
    • Van; cash, debit card, or credit card;
    • Truck; credit card.
    • Payment by debit card can only be made for vans and cars in the Mini class from our Amsterdam Overtoom branch; payment for other vehicles can only be made by credit card.
    • At our locations in Rotterdam (excluding the airport), Breda, and Tilburg, up to the Compact class, payment can be made by debit card; payment for other vehicles can only be made by credit card.

    Please note:

    At branches at airports, payment can only be made by credit card. Payment by debit card can only be made for vans and cars in the Mini class from our Amsterdam Overtoom branch; payment for other vehicles can only be made by credit card. At our locations in Rotterdam (excluding the airport), Breda, and Tilburg, up to the Compact class, payment can be made by debit card; payment for other vehicles can only be made by credit card. All cards need to be in the name of the main driver. The following credit cards are accepted: VISA, Eurocard/Mastercard, Discover/Diners, UnionPay (CUP), and JCB.

    Please note: prepaid credit cards and debit cards (or cards with prepaid features) cannot be used for the deposit or pre authorization. A regular credit card is required.

  • A standard deductible applies to any damage to the rental car. This is the amount, up to a set maximum, that you may have to pay in cases such as a flat tire, damage you cause yourself, or damage caused by a third party. If there is no damage, you will not be charged.

    The deductible amount is reserved on your credit card when you pick up the car. In many cases, this amount is part of the security deposit. Avis also offers the option to reduce the deductible.

  • You will receive the deposit back within a few days if the car is returned to us with a full tank and damage-free.

    In the case of rentals abroad, this can take 15-30 days

  • To get a good indication of the total cost of car rental, we recommend that you use our online reservation module.

  • Yes, this surcharge applies to locations where operational costs are higher than operational costs at other locations. An airport fee of 40 euros is charged at Schiphol Airport and Rotterdam Airport.

  • Yes, for drivers under 25 years old, a young person surcharge is charged.

  • No, Avis does not charge a reservation fee for making a booking regardless of whether through the call center, locations, or online.

  • Various additional charges are generally explained on the left side of the invoice and normally relate to the extra options/services that you have requested/accepted at the time of rental (e.g., child seat, relocation equipment, etc.).

  • Yes, you can pay for the rental of vans and cars in the mini class by debit card, for all other vehicles you will need a credit card.

    Please note:

    • At airport branches, you can only pay by credit card.
    • Only compact vans and cars in the Mini class can be paid by direct debit at our Amsterdam Overtoom location. Other vehicles can only be paid for by credit card.
    • At our locations in Rotterdam (excluding the airport), Breda and Tilburg, up to the Compact class, payment can be made by debit card; payment for other vehicles can only be made by credit card.
  • At Avis Netherlands we accept the following payment methods:

  • Booked via Avis.com? Go to https://www.avis.com/en/reservation/ereceipt, enter your last name and email address, and view invoices from the past 6 months.

    Did you book through Avis.nl, our call center, or a branch? Please contact our call center at +31 88 900 5555. We will be happy to send your invoice to you by email.

  • If you booked your rental car through a travel agency or tour operator, please contact them with any questions of this kind, even if the subsequent charge was made by Avis. Your travel agent or tour operator will then contact the country where the vehicle was rented directly and provide you with an answer.

    If you made a reservation abroad through our call center or via the international Avis website, please email your question along with your rental and reservation details to customer.relations@avis.nl. We will review your request and aim to respond within five business days.
