Questions about pick-up and return

  • Please note: Our One-Way service is temporarily unavailable.

    Yes, you can. Our One-Way Service is also available abroad upon request. If you wish to return the passenger car or passenger van you rented in the Netherlands to an Avis location abroad, an additional fee will be charged. The amount of this fee depends on the return location.

    Please note: The One-Way Service is not available abroad for vans. When making your reservation, indicate where you want to return the rental car. This can be done through our international online reservation module, our call center by calling +31 (0)88 - 900 55 55 or through one of our Avis locations.

  • Yes that is possible. We offer you the opportunity to return the rental car after closing time. However, you remain liable for the rental car until an Avis employee can register the return of the car (opening time of the branch the next day). Please note that paid parking applies at some establishments.

    Please inquire with the renting Avis branch or our call center by calling +31 (0)88 -900 55 55 about the conditions if you want to return the car outside opening hours.

  • Our call center can be reached Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm by calling +31 (0)88 - 900 55 55.

    For the opening hours of our branches in the Netherlands, please refer to our Branches section. Reservations can be made 24 hours a day through our online reservation system.

  • Yes, you can. With our One-Way Service, passenger cars, passenger vans and vans in the Netherlands can be returned to a different Avis location than where it was picked up. However, you must specify during your reservation to which branch you want to return the rental car. This can be done through our online reservation module, our call center by calling +31 (0)88 - 900 55 55 or through one of our Avis locations.

  • Bring the following documents with you when picking up your rental car. These documents must be in the name of the main driver. Avis reserves the right to check details in advance. Renters with a residential address in the Netherlands:

    • A valid driver's license (that you have had for at least one year).
    • An address identification in the form of a paper or digital bank statement, pay slip, extract from population register, copy of landline telephone contract or copy of a mobile telephone contract. This document should not be older than 30 days.
    • To drive a truck of class T1OR or higher, you must hold a driver's pass.
    • Any additional driver must be present when the rental car is picked up. This additional driver only needs to show a valid driver's license.

    Renters with a residential address abroad:

    • A valid driver's license (that you have had for at least one year).
    • A valid international driver's license, if the original driver's license is written in a non-Western script.
    • A valid passport.
    • A return ticket or proof of the address you are staying at in the Netherlands, such as confirmation from the hotel where you are staying.
    • Any additional driver must be present when the rental car is picked up. This additional driver only needs to show a valid driver's license.
  • Yes, every rental car you rent will be provided to you fully fueled so you can go directly to your destination. In the Netherlands, the rental car must also be returned fully refueled. Failure to do so will result in refueling and gasoline charges.

  • Are you bringing the car back earlier than planned? Then you still pay the full amount. You will not receive a refund for unused rental days.
