What is GDPR
At Avis, we believe it's important to comply with all laws and regulations. We also handle your privacy with care and will do everything we can to protect your personal information.
The way we are required to manage personal data is outlined in the GDPR. GDPR stands for "General Data Protection Regulation" and is a comprehensive European regulation regarding data protection. This legislation ensures that companies (who collect, process, and use personal data) respect the privacy rights of individuals (customers and employees).
We, as Avis Budget Car Rental, are not a "Data Processor" but a "Data Controller." This comes with responsibilities, meaning we must at least take the following measures:
Record-Keeping Obligation
Every company must document which personal data they collect, for what purpose, and how long the data will be stored. We have created a Processing Activities Register, which we periodically review and update.
Privacy Desk
We have an internal privacy desk that ensures our compliance with the GDPR and internal Privacy Policy. You can reach our privacy desk via email at privacy@avis.nl. We regularly audit our policies and locations to ensure full compliance.
Privacy Protection Measures
We have implemented appropriate security measures to safeguard your personal data.
Data Breaches
If a data breach occurs that poses a potential risk to an individual, it must be reported to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) and to the affected individual within 72 hours. Our internal policies detail how employees must act in the event of a breach, aligned with the authority’s guidelines.
Prior Consultation and Data Processing Set-Up
In certain cases, we will consult the Dutch Data Protection Authority prior to starting any new high-risk processing activity. Privacy is considered from the beginning when developing new products and services. Existing products are also regularly reviewed to ensure only necessary data is collected and retained.
By using our services (including our website, app, customer programs, etc.), you agree to our Privacy Policy and the described use of your information.
What does this mean for you?
As a customer, you have certain rights regarding the information you provided and/or the data we have collected over time.
You can find a full overview of your rights and how we handle them in our Privacy Policy.
For complaints, you can contact our Customer Relations team at customer.relations@avis.nl. We aim to resolve any issues swiftly. If you are not satisfied with how your privacy complaint is handled, you may also contact the Dutch Data Protection Authority (www.autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
