Questions about renting a car in summer

  • Yes, especially in summer, booking early is a smart choice. During vacation periods, demand for rental cars is often higher. By reserving in advance, you have more choice in available cars and extras.

  • Think about who you are traveling with, how much luggage you have and where you are going. For a city trip, a compact car is often a good choice. Taking a longer trip or bringing more with you? A larger car, SUV or passenger van may be more comfortable. Avis offers compact cars, family cars, passenger vans and more.

  • The price depends on your rental period, pickup location, car type and any extras you choose. Enter your trip details to see which rental cars are available and what you’ll pay. That way, you know what to expect before you book.

  • When you rent a vehicle, you pay a security deposit. The amount depends on the vehicle, car class and excess. Minimum deposit:

    • Passenger car: €250
    • Van: €350
    • Truck up to class T3OK: €750

    You pay the deposit when you pick up the vehicle. For most vehicles, you need a credit card. For some classes, you can also pay by debit card.

    At airport locations, payment is only possible by credit card. All payment cards must be in the main driver’s name.Prepaid credit cards and debit cards cannot be used for the deposit or pre authorization.

  • Yes. When renting a car, there may be extra costs or optional insurance products. For example, an additional driver, child seat, navigation system or one way service.

    A standard excess also applies in case of damage or theft. The amount depends on the car category and your age, and is shown on your booking confirmation. You can lower the excess in advance for an additional fee.

    You can also choose personal accident insurance. This insurance is not required, but it can give you and your passengers extra peace of mind in case of injury or material damage caused by an accident.

  • Yes, you can drive to many European countries. With an Avis rental car from the Netherlands, you may drive to: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Always let the pickup location know you’re planning to drive abroad. That way, we can make sure everything is set for your destination.

    Please note: driving to Spain is allowed, except to Ceuta and Melilla.

  • With Avis, you always get at least 100 free kilometers per day. Planning to drive farther, for example during a summer vacation abroad? Check your booking to see how many free kilometers apply to your rental car.

  • Reservations made online can be canceled online. Want to change your booking? Please contact the rental location or call center. You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pickup. Cancellation fees may apply within 24 hours of pickup.
