Renting a car for a late summer vacation

Tow bar load

The most important thing to keep in mind with a tow bar is not to overload it. The maximum tow bar load of the (rental) car must not be exceeded. So make sure you have a balanced load between the car and the caravan, trailer or bike rack. You can find the maximum permissible tow bar load in the accompanying papers or instruction booklet of the caravan, for example.

Taking the caravan on vacation

Good preparation is half the battle! Therefore, check in advance that the the caravan is well suited to the car. Check the tire pressure of the car, make sure the load is balanced between the car and the caravan (put heavy things in the car) and check that the tow bar load is not too light but certainly not too heavy either. It is important not to exceed the maximum permitted speed of 90 km/hour while driving. If you drive faster, the caravan can soon start to sway.
