  • Reservations made online can be canceled online. To change a reservation, please contact the relevant branch or the call center by calling us at +31 (0)88 - 900 55 55.

    For cancellations, the following rules apply:

    • You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before departure.
    • If you cancel within 24 hours before departure, a maximum cancellation fee of €65 will be charged.
    • The full rental amount is charged for cancellations due to a “no show”.
    • If you have paid in advance and cancel no later than 24 hours before departure, the full amount paid in advance will be refunded to your account within 5 business days.
    • If a car is returned early, you will not receive a refund for unused rental days. The general rental terms and conditions apply.

  • Yes, vehicle rentals are subject to a deposit. You can pay for the rental of vans and cars in the mini class by debit card. For all other vehicles, you will need a credit card.

    The amount of the deposit depends on the rented vehicle and car class. At Avis, it is possible to reduce the amount of the deposit by lowering the deductible:

    • for passenger cars, the minimum deposit is €250;
    • for vans, the minimum deposit is €350;
    • for trucks up to and including class T3OK, the minimum deposit is €750.

    You pay the deposit at the location when you pick the vehicle up. This also applies to reservations made online or through the call center. Depending on the car class, you can pay the deposit in the following ways:

    • Mini and Economy class; debit or credit card;
    • Compact class (medium-sized car class); credit card;
    • Intermediate and Standard classes (large car class); credit card
    • Full Size, Premium, Luxury, and Special class (large car class); 2 credit cards or 1 credit card and 1 debit card payment. All cards need to be in the renter’s name. This is also the main driver
    • FVMR; debit or credit card;
    • Passenger van (9 pers.); debit or credit card;
    • Van; cash, debit card, or credit card;
    • Truck; credit card.
    • Payment by debit card can only be made for vans and cars in the Mini class from our Amsterdam Overtoom branch; payment for other vehicles can only be made by credit card.
    • At our locations in Rotterdam (excluding the airport), Breda, and Tilburg, up to the Compact class, payment can be made by debit card; payment for other vehicles can only be made by credit card.

    Please note:

    At branches at airports, payment can only be made by credit card. Payment by debit card can only be made for vans and cars in the Mini class from our Amsterdam Overtoom branch; payment for other vehicles can only be made by credit card.   • Yes, you can drive to many European countries. With an Avis rental car from the Netherlands, you may drive to: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Always let the pickup location know you’re planning to drive abroad. That way, we can make sure everything is set for your destination.

    Please note: driving to Spain is allowed, except to Ceuta and Melilla.

  • To rent a car from Avis, there are several conditions. You can read what the conditions are here.

    To rent a car in the Netherlands you must:

    • Be at least 21 years old.
    • Have held your driver's license for at least 1 year.
    • If you are under 25, you have a limited choice of passenger cars.
    • Under 25, you can rent the following vehicle classes: MCMR, ECMR, ECAR, EWMR, CDMR, ECMD, CCAR, CWMR, CDMD, DCMR DCAR IDMR IDAR SVMR SVAR PVMR PVAR.
