Mobility budget or lease car?

Commit to a flexible mobility policy

As a modern employer, you want to accommodate your employees in terms of commuting choices. And with the labor market shortages, which may continue for another 10 to 20 years, you want to do everything you can to stand out positively. But this does not necessarily mean that every employee or potential employee craves a leased car. A leased car may be seen as a burden by younger employees, because they live in a busy city and have nowhere to park their car. Whereas staff who live in an outlying area probably do see a leased car as a big plus.

Often it already helps tremendously not to provide employees with standard options; let them shape their own mobility. So what are all the possible options? We'll tell you about that in a moment, but first a quick update regarding the Environment Act that you should definitely take into consideration.

The CO2 registration requirement

As of January 1, 2024, employers with more than 100 employees must record all business trips and employee commutes. This is pursuant to the CO2 registration requirement under the Environment Act. Basically, these are trips for which you give your employees financial compensation or for which you provide a vehicle or ticket for travel. You report the following figures: mileage, means of transport used and type of fuel.

At Avis, we are happy to help you keep track of your rides. On your Avis Business account you can easily find the information about: the number of rental days, kilometers driven, the tax value of the cars used and the CO2 emissions. Upon request, we can also provide the total overview of all reservations made and the license plates of cars currently rented out and deployed.

Now, which form of mobility best suits your organization and employees?

Full operational lease is on its way out

For decades, full operating lease was the most popular form of lease for employers. Understandable: the organization can count on fixed monthly charges and a fleet management department is absolutely unnecessary. But this is no longer the case: in fact, more and more companies are opting for somewhat shorter leases. Flexibility is becoming increasingly attractive, especially in economically uncertain times, with faster turnover of staff. Short Leasing then proves to be a smart choice.

With Avis Short Lease, you don't have a fixed contract, but rather a lot of flexibility. After all, you can return the car whenever you want. And you can short lease a passenger car from us from only 30 days. You can also Short Lease a van. You then already benefit from a flexible contract with a rental period of at least 30 days.

Get the best of all transportation options? The mobility budget!

A mobility budget is a budget per employee to fund work travel - themselves. The employee receives an amount per month for the cost of commuting and travel to customers and contacts.

Such a budget allows your employee to travel by train, tram, subway, van, rental bike or rental car in an easy way. After all, there are plenty of ways to get from A to B; sometimes traveling by public transit is convenient while other times a car would be more appropriate. It also encourages making environmentally conscious choices.
